Our History

We’ve Come a Long Way.

See the Norris Bulletin timeline below and see how far we have come.

1948

First Publication
The Norris Bulletin dates back to 1948, when Anne Henley first began publication. Ms. Henley ran the paper for 38 years before passing it on to her successor in 1985. The 1948 bulletins were printed using the now obsolete mimeograph technology which had a very distinctive strong solvent smell.

1986

Norris Bulletin Restructured
Ms. Henley’s successor, Ann Luzadder successfully restructured the Bulletin from being merely a local newsletter to a legally recognized newspaper, as much a newspaper as the New York Times or the Boston Globe. Ann Luzadder opined, “One of the Librarians at the Library of Congress said she thought we were the smallest (REAL) Newspaper (Weekly) in the United States. We never knew that for sure, but if we weren’t the smallest, we were close.” It was at that point where the Bulletin switched over from mimeograph printing to offset printing on newsprint paper.

2013

Updated Format
In June of 2013, it was Jack Mitchell who switched the publication format over from newsprint to the current half-folded, stapled 8-1/2” x 17” bond paper format.

2024

Current Ownership & Goals
Since Anne Henley’s tenure, there has been a succession of 8 owners with the current owners' first issue being October 24, 2024. Each of these owners published the Bulletin in a way that reflected their editorial mindset. The new owners aim to shift the paper from private to community ownership through a nonprofit board of local residents.

“The Bulletin is the heartbeat of our community.”
